Mrs. Melody Locklair has taught Christian based dance for many years in the Athens/Huntsville area. All of her recitals are dramatic performances based on the Bible. Costumes and dances are modest, and I never have to worry about my children keeping their modesty while participating in Mrs. Melody's dance classes.

****ASTRONOMY CLASS AS A GENERAL SCIENCE
For 8th through 12th grade homeschoolers

32 week course including “Message in the Stars” - the gospel is in the sky!
One class per week lasting 2 hours
Homework required
Lab Journal required
Power Point required
Magazine Reports required
Weekly Quizzes
Mid-Term Exam per semester
Final Exam per semester
Tuition for one student: $10 per lesson
More than one student from a family:  $8 per lesson
Tuition can be paid up front, monthly or weekly.
Class Location:  In my home, in a student’s home, or in a church classroom

Have been praying about teaching entire families and adjusting homework per age of family members.  But I have no Earthly idea how much to charge for this!  Gas would have to be a consideration.  Interested?  Please
share with me your thoughts and suggestions!

For the first time in 7 years, I am NOT requiring the lab fee of $25 per semester.  This is because over the years I have purchased and added to my collection of lab equipment.  I will only need to purchase the
“consumables” this year.  However, donations for these “consumable” items are always welcome!

DETAILS

WARNING:  I teach astronomy from a Creationist point of view.  However, I do present the secular viewpoint of the Big Bang and evolution of the galaxy. This is because I believe students need to learn how to refute it!
I will unashamedly give my testimony and during the year the gospel will be presented at least twice.

TEXTBOOK:   ABekka 8th grade Science Textbook;  Matter in Motion
We only use the first unit and portions of two other chapters in the book, so please try to borrow the book or purchase a USED one.

HOMEWORK:  Approximately 3 hours of homework is given each week.   This is in order to earn  credit hours for the year’s course.

Homework includes:

- Bible Verse memorization, one verse per quarter.
- Reading assignments with certain questions from the end of the chapter.
- One star chart is done together in the class, one is done at home
- One magazine report per semester
- One power point to be created and presented by the student per semester
- Lab Journal is for logging sky observations and lab
activities/demonstrations

CLASS SIZE:  I prefer classes of only four students each.
However, if I teach an entire family at one time, I realize there may be
as many as 10 or 11.  Handouts would be given out age appropriately.

LOCATION:  In the past I have taught in my home, in a student’s home, and in a room in the back of a store!  I am also willing to teach in a church classroom.  So at this time, the location is negotiable.  It depends on where you live or…  if you want to arrange a location.

So far, we have: 1. a home in SE Huntsville on Smoke Rise Road
2. a classroom in the back of an art/frame shop in Hampton Cove

Am open to traveling to your area if you desire to host a class.  Whoever hosts a class gets one student's tuition free.

POWER POINT:  Each semester, one power point presentation is to be created by the student and presented to the class. A list of astronomical topics will be offered and the student may either choose one or suggest his/her
own idea.  Since many college professors now require power point presentations, it will not hurt for your student to learn how to create one now.  Step-by-step instructions will be given and I have even traveled
to the home of a student in order to assist them with the creation and/or to view their power point.

INTERENET RESEARCH:  Sometimes homework will include research via the internet.  I suggest parental permission and supervision.

PLANETARIUM IN MONTE SANO STATE PARK:  Each semester we attend one planetarium show as a class in the Von Braun Astronomical Society (VBAS) planetarium.  I will take care of the students’ admission charge and their
attendance counts as a class.

VBAS owns and operates 16” and 21” inch telescopes.  If it is a clear night, there are usually other scope operators in the field behind the observatory with their personal scopes.  They always welcome the public to view and try to answer any questions.  Students will have opportunity to view celestial objects through these telescopes any Saturday night when the sky is clear or partly clear.  Telescope viewing at the complex is always free.  You do NOT need to own a telescope for this class.

NEEDS:
1 ½” to 2” notebook:  I have created many, many hand-outs and they will need the room!
Notebook dividers
Notebook paper
Lab Journal: this can be a large spiral or composition notebook, or even a small pocket spiral notebook.
Colored Pencils at home:  we will color a star chart together in class once a week and they will do one at home as part of their homework.
Textbook:  preferably borrowed or used

If extra points are needed to pull up a grade, there is a “Create an Astronomy Game” option.  If this is done, the student may need posterboard and/or construction paper.

I have typed this rather quickly during my lunch time at work, so I know I must be forgetting something!!!  I only have access to my e-mail on Mondays and Tuesdays at work, and when I go to the library.  If you e-mail me over the weekend, do not be surprised if your message bounces.  Try again Monday afternoon!

Better yet... call me!

Please feel free to forward this information along to anyone else who homeschools.

Also, please feel free to contact me if you have questions or are interested in taking the class.

FYI  Cassie Lofts, a Homeschooling Mother, and I are planning a special planetarium show for homeschoolers.  Details will be sent out once they are completed.

Please let me know if you wish to be removed from this mailing list.  I use this list for astronomy class enrollment, notification of homeschool planetarium shows, and for my emergency preparedness workshops.

Thank you and may God bless you!

256-232-9146
All Classes are open to area homeschoolers regardless of their homeschool affiliations.

Time: Tuesdays 9:00 am — 10:00 am

Class Description: In this class, your child will learn the Spanish in a natural, fun and easy way. Through games , role playing, props, and lots of laughter your child will learn and retain the Spanish Language. He will become familiar with the Spanish alphabet and how to pronounce the letters, numbers, phrases, how to tell time and so much more. We will go step by step through the basic vocabulary, sentences and expressions needed in everyday life. We will use Español Para Chicos y Grandes as our base text, but I will also supplement with other resources to more fully enrich your child's experience. I chose this text becasue it is geared toward homeschoolers and parents can learn along with their child or just be involved more easily in the class. I do give homework so that your child will be exposed more than one day a week to the Spanish Language, but I will not bog him down. I see myself as your child's guide along his journey to learn Spanish. By the end of the year, your child will be able to understand and carry on a basic conversation in Spanish, conjugate verbs, understand the grammatical construction, and have an enriched understanding of the culture behind the language.

We will have tests every other week to see how we are progressing

Requirements: Your child will be required to bring pen and or pencil to class everyday, along with paper. Your child will need a 3 ring binder, of 1 1/2" - 2" thick. This will be used for your child to keep their notebook paper and any worksheets or information sheets I give them through the course of the school year.

If you have any questions about this course, please feel free to contact me either by phone or email: (256) 425-4195 or memyselfjennifer@gmail.com. You may also contact Lionheart ChristianAcademy.
