We are done with Used book Sales until next spring. Usually we start those again in March.
CPSIA Legislation
Effective February 10th, the laws for selling and reselling Children's Products changed drastically in our country.
We have begun taking consignments again. There is a new consignment policy in effect now. Please see it, at the bottom of this page.)

Buying Used Books
We have a very extensive inventory of books and materials available on consignment: countless Bob Jones, A Beka, Alpha Omega, and Christian Liberty Press titles. We also get Saxon Math in on a fairly regular basis (and Sonlight and Math U See occasionally!) And we have thousands of good reading books. If you are looking for something in particular, feel free to email or call, and we will check on it for you. (If you call and no one is available, please do not leave a message...It is best to call back so we can check while you are on the phone.)
We try to screen the used books that we allow to be consigned, but please understand that it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure the materials you purchase from us (both new and used) will work for your family, and that they do not contain any material your family would find objectionable.
Consignment Policies at CLC
Please note that we will only be taking consignments on Mondays and Thursdays during the School Year, and that the new policy does not apply to items already consigned; those are under the old policy, which can be seen here.
New Consignment Policies at CLC – Effective February 2009
Please carefully read through these policies before consigning items at CLC.
What may be consigned?
We accept most teachers’ manuals, student books with little or no writing in them, literature, etc. The Owner has the final say, based on what she deems saleable. (Due to the new safety restrictions of CPSIA, we are currently not expecting to be able to carry much more than books. CDs, DVDs, manipulatives, etc. are being evaluated at this time.)
Are checks and credit still an option?
No, from this point forward, materials will only be accepted for in-store credit. (This does not apply to items that have previously been consigned.)
What % of selling price does the Consignor receive?
After items have sold, Consignor receives 50% of the selling price as in-store credit. (Again, this change does not apply to items that have already been consigned.)
Who prices items?
Our objective is to find the prices that will best meet the needs of the Consignor, the Customer, and CLC. The Owner prefers to price all materials herself; items that are under $2 are only priced by the Owner. If the Consignor prices items, it is understood that the Owner may adjust the prices up or down as she sees fit.
How and when can items be dropped off?
Monday and Thursday afternoons are our usual consignment times. is still a good idea to call before you head over to bring book to make sure the Owner is available: 256-325-3305. Items dropped off when the Owner is not present or available to go through them are left at the risk of the Consignor – prices may be adjusted and any items deemed unacceptable will be donated to the Thrift Store, or put in our Free Box. Please understand that the Owner does not have time to call people after books are dropped off.
How are items under $2 handled versus items $2 or more?
Items under $2 are not numbered. Once they have been priced by the Owner, 50% in in-store credit is instantly given to the Consignor.
How are pick ups handled?
Consignors will be responsible for pulling all items they choose to pick up. CLC will not pull books off the shelf. All unsold items become the property of CLC after 12 months. Reminders will not be sent out; it is the responsibility of the Consignor to pick up any remaining items before the 12 month period is up, if desired. Otherwise, they may be discounted, added to our give away boxes, sent next door to the Thrift Store, etc.
Liability?
We go to great lengths to take care of the books and other items left in our care. But, if something happens in spite our best efforts, CLC assumes no liability for the loss of, or damage to, items consigned.
Please understand that these policies are not meant to be restrictive or difficult. They are meant to make it possible for us to continue to take consignments, and to continue to be able to serve the greater Madison/Huntsville community.
Thank you.
