Buying Used Books

We have a very extensive inventory of books and materials available on consignment:  countless Bob Jones, A Beka, Alpha Omega, and Christian Liberty Press titles.  We also get Saxon Math and Math U See in on a fairly regular basis. And we have thousands of good reading books.  If you are looking for something in particular, feel free to email or call, and we will check on it for you.

(We are about to close for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and will not be taking books on Consignment until we reopen on Monday, December 1st.)

We try to screen the used books that we allow to be consigned, but please understand that it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure the materials you purchase from us (both new and used) will work for your family, and that they do not contain any material your family would find objectionable.

New Consignment Percentages at CLC – Effective January 16, 2008

We are so excited about the growing number of books and other materials being consigned at Creative Learning Connection.  The selection and quality grows weekly.  With 1000’s of consigned items to manage, we have revised our consignment methods and percentages,  effective January 16th.  They will not affect materials that are already in the store, but only those consigned on the 16th and beyond.

You will still have a choice of getting a check or in-store credit, but we will now have a 4-tier percentage system, instead of the 2-tier one we have employed for so many years.  We hope to encourage more folks to go with the “non-listing” option that we phased in this past few months.

Percentages will now range from 40% to 70%, depending on which options you choose.

Those who choose in-store credit, and the “non-listing” option will receive the maximum amount – 70% of what their books sell for.

Those who choose in-store credit, but prefer to list their books on the consignment sheet and give them individual item numbers, will receive 60% of the selling price.  (To see the form we use for listed books, click here. ) You may copy the format of the form, email me at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu for a copy of it as a Word Document, or wait until you bring the books into the store to get a copy of the form, it's entirely up to you.

For those who prefer checks, you may still get a check for 50% of the price, if you go with the non-listing option.

For those who want checks, and prefer to have their items listed out, the percentage paid will be 40% of what the books sell for.

If you have any questions about any of this, just call or email us at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu or 256-325-3305.

We look forward to continuing to meet your consignment needs.

Please carefully read through these policies before consigning items at CLC.

By leaving books or other materials at CLC, the Consignor is agreeing to the terms below:

What may be consigned?

We accept most teachers’ manuals, student books with little or no writing in them, good literature, unit study materials, manipulatives and much more.  The Owner has the final say, based on what she deems saleable.

What % of selling price does the Consignor receive?

After items have sold, Consignor receives 60 or 70% of selling price as in-store credit, or 40 or 50% of selling price in the form of a check (see above for more details).

When are checks issued?

Checks are generally issued by the 15th of the month for sales from the prior month(s). Checks are issued only when the check amount reaches at least $25. Checks must be cashed within 6 months of their issue date or they will be cancelled and not reissued.

Who prices items?

Our objective is to find the prices that will best meet the needs of the Consignor, the Customer, and CLC.   The Owner prefers to price all materials herself; items that are under $2 are only priced by the Owner.  If the Consignor prices items, it is understood that the Owner may adjust the prices up or down as she sees fit.

How and when can items be dropped off?

It is preferred that materials be dropped off when the Owner is available to go through them with the Consignor.   The Consignor will be responsible for filling out the paperwork at the same time, if choosing the listing method.  If the Owner is unavailable, you may leave your items, or take them with you and make an appointment to come back at a later time.  Items dropped off when the Owner is not available are left at the risk of the Consignor – prices may be adjusted and any items deemed unacceptable will be donated to the Thrift Store or put in our Free Box.  Please understand that the Owner does not have time to call people after books are dropped off.

How are items under $2 handled versus items $2 or more?

Regardless of which of the above methods is chosen for items $2 and over, items under $2 are handled differently.  These are not numbered and they are not listed on the paperwork. Once they have been priced by the Owner, 50% in in-store credit is automatically given to the Consignor.

How are pick ups handled?

Unsold Items may be picked up at any point, within 12 months, by Consignors, if desired. If Consignors choose to pick up unsold items, it is their responsiblility to find them; the staff at CLC will not pull books off the shelf.   All unsold items become the property of CLC after 12 months, to dispose of as they see fit. (Most end up in the Free box, or are sent to the nearby Thrift Store.)  Reminders will not be sent out; it is the responsibility of the Consignor to remember to pick up any remaining items before the 12 month period is up, if they so desire.

Liability?

We go to great lengths to take care of the books and other items left in our care.  But, if something happens in spite our best efforts, CLC assumes no liability for the loss of, or damage to, items consigned.

None of these requirements or restrictions are meant to be difficult...We try our best to make the consignment process a win-win for all involved...Almost 700 families have consigned thousands of books with us in the last 5 1/2 years, and we want this to work well for everyone!
