February/March Happenings at Creative Learning

February 12, 2010

Greetings on this, the 201st birthday of Abraham Lincoln. In honor of Lincoln and Washington’s birthdays, we are excited to announce that our Washington and Lincoln lapbooks are both available now as e-books! We have finally joined the group of homeschooling publishers at www.CurrClick.com to offer many of our products as inexpensive downloads. This week more than 20 of our products have been uploaded, and we look forward to bringing many more of them to that site in the near future.

Of course, you will still be able to get “hard copies” of any of our items at Creative Learning Connection, or through the mail, for those of you who prefer that. But we are excited to be offering so many of our books, lapbooks, and games at even more affordable prices, and for many, in a more convenient manner.

Specials:
In our continued effort to reduce our inventory, we have marked down the wonderful books and audios we have in to stock by several homeschool authors: Cindy Rushton, Christie Berry, and Heather Clanton-Sample. These will be 50% off, while supplies last. (Don’t worry – we’re not going out of business, we are merely cutting back on our inventory of new items to make room for the growing amount of pre-owned things that we are carrying.)

Used Books:
We take used books, games, and other educational materials on consignment year-round (on Thursdays, or by appointment). We also like to host Used Book Sales in the spring and summer, where people can sell their own materials. Our first Used Book Sale of the season is coming up on Tuesday, March 9. Set up is between 6 and 6:30, and the official selling time is from 7 to 9 p.m. Please share this information with other homeschoolers, parents, and teachers you know – since with these sales, it is definitely a case of “the more the merrier”. Please contact us at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu or 256-325-3305 if you would like to reserve a table. There is no cost to participate, you will be manning your own table, and making your own sales.

Moms’ Meeting
We also have a Moms’ Meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening, March 30. Catherine Jaime will be speaking on “Multi-level Teaching” (or “How to keep your sanity while homeschooling many children”). As a 28-year homeschooling veteran, and the mother of 12 children, she has plenty of experience in this area! Please RSVP at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu or 256-325-3305.

CPSIA
The next deadline of the Consumer Product Safety “Improvement” Act has come and gone – again with a shortage of the fanfare it deserved. What that means for us is the official end of our lapbook kits. We can still put lapbooks together, and offer the masters for sale on-line or through the store (as with Lincoln and Washington), but we can no longer manufacture the kits – providing the file folders, pockets, copies on cool color paper and card stock, etc.. As “manufacturers” we would have been required to test each lot for lead – something that no one believes exists in them – but a new requirement of the law, all the same. (If you’ve missed my previous rants on this horrific law – there are more details on the website: www.CreativeLearningConnection.com/cpsia.html and on my blog: http://clcandcpsia.blogspot.com/)

New Hours:
Don’t forget, our new hours: We are open Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will also be open one Friday and Saturday each month from 12 – 5 p.m. (in March that will be Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th).
