February 7, 2009
Today's News at Creative Learning Connection:
We are open today, Saturday, February 07, 2009 from at least 8:30 to 5:30 for our second day of Seminars. (The schedule for those is further down in this newsletter.)
As we continue to go through our inventory getting ready for next week’s CPSIA purge, we are finding many, many items that we are currently not comfortable selling after the February 10 deadline. Those include many children’s videos and phonics sets, and numerous hands-on science items. All of those items are 50% off today, and other children’s books, curriculum, etc. (things intended for children 12 and under) are 25% off today.
We will be closed next Monday and Tuesday to deal with all of this, so today is the last day to buy many of these items here at all. (Barring a last minute change to the law, of course, which many of us are praying for, but most of us are not expecting.)
We hope to begin taking BOOKS on consignment again after Thursday, February 12, but PLEASE call or check the website before you head over to make sure. And be sure to read the new consignment policy before you come in. (At the end of the newsletter and on the website.)

Consignment Policies at CLC – Effective February 2009
Please carefully read through these policies before consigning items at CLC.
What may be consigned?
We accept most teachers’ manuals, student books with little or no writing in them, literature, etc. The Owner has the final say, based on what she deems saleable. (Due to the new safety restrictions of CPSIA, we are currently not expecting to be able to carry much more than books. CDs, DVDs, manipulatives, etc. are being evaluated at this time, but without new news from the CPSC we will not longer be taking those if they are intended for children 12 and under.)
Are checks and credit still an option?
No, from this point forward, materials will only be accepted for in-store credit. (This does not apply to items that have previously been consigned.)
What % of selling price does the Consignor receive?
After items have sold, Consignor receives 50% of the selling price as in-store credit. (Again, this change does not apply to items that have already been consigned.)
Who prices items?
Our objective is to find the prices that will best meet the needs of the Consignor, the Customer, and CLC. The Owner prefers to price all materials herself; items that are under $2 are only priced by the Owner. If the Consignor prices items, it is understood that the Owner may adjust the prices up or down as she sees fit.
How and when can items be dropped off?
When we start taking consignments again, we plan to take them on Monday and Thursday afternoons only. It is still a good idea to call before you head over to bring books: 256-325-3305. Items dropped off when the Owner is not present or available to go through them are left at the risk of the Consignor – prices may be adjusted and any items deemed unacceptable will be donated to the Thrift Store, or put in our Free Box. Please understand that the Owner does not have time to call people after books are dropped off.
How are items under $2 handled versus items $2 or more?
Items under $2 are not numbered. Once they have been priced by the Owner, 50% in in-store credit is instantly given to the Consignor.
How are pick ups handled?
Consignors will be responsible for pulling all items they choose to pick up. CLC will not pull books off the shelf. All unsold items become the property of CLC after 12 months. Reminders will not be sent out; it is the responsibility of the Consignor to pick up any remaining items before the 12 month period is up, if desired.
Liability?
We go to great lengths to take care of the books and other items left in our care. But, if something happens in spite our best efforts, CLC assumes no liability for the loss of, or damage to, items consigned.
Thank you.
