Upcoming Happenings at CLC and in Community
April 2, 2008
Creative Learning Connection 8006 Old Madison Pike, Madison, AL 35758 256-325-3305 www.CreativeLearningConnection.com I just wanted to let everyone know about some upcoming events both at CLC and in the community during the month of April. Hours: In addition to our usual Monday – Thursday hours, we will open the first Friday and Saturday in April: April 4th and 5th. (All days are 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.) Used Books: Our next Used Book Sale of the season is Thursday evening, April 17th (and the May date is Thursday, May 29th.) Please let us know if you are planning to attend as a Seller, so we make sure there are enough tables. Sellers may arrive to set up between 6:00 and 6:30, and the Sale officially begins at 7:00. (These usually go till about 8:30 or 9:00.) Leaving unsold items after the sale on consignment is an option, but there is no obligation. There is also no cost to participate. Art Classes: There are still a few slots in Betty Wilson’s upcoming Watercolor Classes (ages 10 – 15). The next 2 classes will be Thursday, April 17th and Monday, April 21st from 1 – 3 p.m. Each class costs $12 (a student may take either or both), and we will be taking sign ups/payment at the store. There are also a couple of slots left in her upcoming Art and Craft Creations Classes (ages 5 – 12). The next 2 classes with openings are Monday, April 14th and Monday, April 28th from 1 – 3 p.m. Each class is $12. New Book: Cathy is happy announce that her first Children’s book has been completed: The Adventures of Horsie in Panama. This 48 page book follows a stuffed horse on his two week trip across Panama. Lots of fun! * * * * Other April Opportunities outside CLC Leonardo da Vinci Exhibit: The exhibit at the Huntsville Art Museum on Leonardo’s Inventions goes through April 27th. This Friday, April 4th is “Free Friday” at the museum, so that might be a good opportunity to go. Our family actually got an Art Museum membership so we could go back a couple of times. The exhibits are interesting, the computer programs are fun (especially the set on the right side!). (But, unfortunately the biography movie is not recommended!) * * * * Teams from all over the world will be coming to Huntsville for the Moonbuggy Race at the Space and Rocket Center. Observers are welcome. On Friday, the High School teams will compete and on Saturday, the college teams will compete. From what I've heard they compete from about 8:15 to 5:30 with a break from 11-1. http://moonbuggy.msfc.nasa.gov/compete.html * * * * THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, 7 p.m., First Baptist Church of Huntsville CHOIRFEST 2008, the Huntsville Choral Festival www.choirfest.org Choral concert with reknown guest conductor (Mr. Anton Armstrong, conductor of the world-reknown St. Olaf's Choir) at First Baptist Church of Huntsville, this Saturday night at 7pm. Sponsored by the Huntsville Community Chorus and the Huntsville Chamber Music Guild. ChoirFest is an annual festival of choral singing and workshops for choral singers and conductors lasting all weekend, and culminating in a full-voiced choir from attendees from all over the region on Saturday night. The Star-Spangled Banner arr. by Peter Wilhousky (a classic arrangement that was performed at one of Ronald Reagan's inaugurations and will take your breath away) is one of a list of well-chosen pieces accompanied by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. More detailed information is at the website. Cost for individual tickets is $25, but is well worth the price to hear such a superior musical quality performance. Musical pieces that are being rehearsed are: "Magnificat" (for 3 choirs), by Andrea Gabrielli "Lamb of God" (acapella), by F. Melius Christiansen "Light Glittering Morn" (baritone solo, brass quartet and organ), by Horatio Parker "Te Deum" (with organ) by John Rutter "If Music Be the Food of Love", by David Dickau "I Dream a World", by Andre Thomas "Let Everything That Has Breath, Praise the Lord" (piano, drums, electric bass), by Jeffrey Ames "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" (two choirs and the audience) by Peter Wilhousky
