March events at CLC and in the Community
February 22, 2008
I just wanted to let everyone know about some upcoming events both at CLC and in the area during the month of March. Hours: In addition to our usual Monday – Thursday hours, we will open the first Saturday in March, March 1st. We will also be open the following Friday and Saturday, March 7th and 8th. (All days are 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.) Used Books: Bad news: We will not be taking consignments during the first two weeks of March. Good news: We will host our first Used Book Sale of the season on Thursday evening, March 27th. Please let us know if you are planning to attend as a Seller, so we make sure there are enough tables. Sellers may arrive to set up between 6:00 and 6:30, and the Sale officially begins at 7:00. (These usually go till about 8:30 or 9:00.) Leaving unsold items after the sale on consignment is an option, but there is no obligation. There is also no cost to participate. Watercolor Classes: There are still a few slots in Betty Wilson’s upcoming Watercolor Classes (ages 10 – 15), though they are going quickly. The first 2 classes will be March 17 and March 20 from 1 – 3 p.m. Each class costs $12 (a student may take either or both), and we will be taking sign ups/payment at the store. Leonardo da Vinci: With the current exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci’s inventions at the Art Museum (more details below), we are happy to have finally increased our line of materials on Leonardo da Vinci. My 60+ page book on da Vinci has been republished with some clearer pictures, and a slightly different format. The new book is $12, and while they last, the original version is $8. We also have a Leonardo Lapbook for $6, and several Mini Units for $2 each. * * * * Other March Opportunities outside CLC Leonardo da Vinci Exhibit: The exhibit at the Huntsville Art Museum on Leonardo’s Inventions is interesting, though not huge. It probably took us 15 – 20 minutes to look at all the models, and another 5 minutes to check out the computers. We also viewed the 50 minute biography film on Leonardo, but it is not appropriate for children! (I was very glad I was there the first time with 2 other adults – and not my children.) * * * * Milestones Debate and Speech Club I have helped judge at these tournaments the last couple of years, and it is quite an experience. You don’t have to be available each day, or all day, to be able to judge. All they ask for is a three hour commitment. And don’t worry about not knowing what you are doing – they provide training – and there are always two other judges judging the same event. For the second year, Milestones Debate and Speech Club will be hosting a qualifying debate and speech tournament in Huntsville, Alabama. This year's tournament will be held Monday, March 17 – Wednesday, March 19 at UAH. Students (and their families) from Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama will return to Huntsville to compete in two styles of debate and ten different speech events. Winners of the various events will qualify to compete in the regional tournament for an opportunity to compete in the National Tournament in June. In order for this tournament to be a success, we need to again enlist the help of the community to judge the students who will be competing in the tournament. Your participation in last year's tournament gave the students who competed the feedback they needed to improve their skills and I am hopeful that your schedule will allow you to participate with us again this year. I know that your schedule is hectic, but I know that these students will bless you...and you will bless them as well…I hope that you will be able to join us sometime during the tournament. Please let me know if you need additional information or if I can answer any questions. Have a great day! Thanks so much! One of them wanted me to pass on the following information, in case any of you had students who would want to attend one of their upcoming Schools (in Louisville, KY). God is at work to redeem the nations, and here at Youth With A Mission we believe that He has an active role for you to play. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a five-month course of intense discipleship and ministry training. Our goal in offering this school is that it would help prepare you to pursue God's call on your life. Course Content The first three months of DTS combine life-changing teachings, small group and one-on-one discipleship, local outreach, and other activities for a well-rounded growth experience. Topics that will be covered include intimacy with God, evangelism, spiritual warfare, walking in freedom from sin, hearing God's voice, missions, worship, prayer, and more! Also, this fall we will be attending a conference led by Loren Cunningham, the founder of Youth With A Mission. The adventure continues with a two-month ministry trip. We'll start here in the states, visiting churches and using the creative arts to present a challenge to a deeper walk with Christ and greater missions involvement. Then we'll take what we've learned overseas, sharing the Gospel with those who most need to hear! Dates & Cost The next DTS begins March 30, 2008. And our Fall DTS begins September 21, 2008. The cost is $2890, which covers tuition, books, food, and housing expenses while you are in Louisville. Remember that tuition does not cover the outreach expenses, as those will be raised separately. Please let us know if you have financial challenges and do not let money stop you! Along with God, we're committed to doing everything we can to help you get here. Check out our website for more information www.ywamlouisville.org/YWAM%20Louisville/DTS.html Our goal at YWAM Louisville is to see young men and women like you fulfill their destiny in Christ, and to see the nations reached for Him! Please feel free to call or e-mail us with any questions. God bless you as you pursue Him and His plan for you! In Him, Nate Jaime (615) 389-4310-Cell (502) 749-4109-Work nate@ywamlouisville.org * * * * I hope that some of the above information is helpful to you. God bless you in your educational efforts.
