The WHCS Govt. Club meets weekly at Creative Learning Connection. Additionally, we travel to Montgomery twice a year to participate in Youth in Government events - Youth Judicial (Mock Trial) and Youth Legislature. This will be our 20th year to participate in the state Mock Trial - where we have taken home 8 first places, and numerous second and third place awards, in addition to numerous lawyer and witness awards.
These are unique opportunities for homeschool students to compete on a state-wide level against students from both public and private schools. Here they learn about government in a hands-on way - and practice their speech and debate skills. (It is a priceless opportunity for students who are considering going on to be lawyers - but it is equally wonderful for students without such aspirations.)
This year's Open House will be Wednesday, August 17 from 10 a.m. till 12 Noon at CLC. This is a great way to learn about our Judicial and Legislative activities.
Starting in September, we will meet (almost) every Wednesday morning from 10 till 12 Noon (from September through the end of February). Our focus the first half will be Mock Trial (our competition is November 4 - 7, 2016) and the second half it will be Legislative in focus (our conference is February 23 - 26, 2017).
If you have any questions, feel free to attend the Open House and/or contact the Advisor/Coach, Catherine Jaime, at email@example.com.
