Dear Senator

I was very unhappy to learn that you were on of the Senators who voted for the CPSIA legislation.

Isn’t the real problem you were trying to solve the imported goods that were tainted?  So why are you going so far with this legislation to attack those who make wonderful, safe, children’s products at home and in small businesses, who can’t possibly afford to comply with this law?  Those who are making clothing items, stuffed animals, children’s books, and children’s toys, that do not contain lead?

Minus a serious shift in the interpretation of the law, the second-hand market of all children's products will be seriously hampered in the United States as of February 10th.   Many of us rely on that market to provide for our families.  Much of what is currently sold used could soon be considered illegal.

Additionally, hand made and home made items are included in this list.  How can it make our children safer to deny these items from their lives?  Another market that is threatened is the self-publishing market.  Many of us rely on used books and/or self-published books as an important part of our children’s education.  It is not appropriate for Congress to deny us that opportunity.

Please support Senator DeMint's amendment, which will take care of many of the problems with this far-reaching law.

Sincerely,
