Making the Connection Between Fun and Learning

We're just starting to get classes lined up for the 2012/2013 school year.

If you are interested in teaching a class, please contact Cathy at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu.

Fall Classes for Younger Students:

Class Title:  Hands On World Cultures and Geography

Aimed at Students Grades: 2nd – 7th (give or take, we're very flexible on this!)
Instructor:  Catherine Jaime
Day/Date:  Tuesdays, September - April
Times: 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Brief Description: Each week is an exciting hands on approach to learning about different countries.  We plan to study one country each week with games, crafts, stories, and more.

Cost: There will be a $20 registration fee due at the first class (to cover the book and supplies).  For families with more than one student, each additional student will only need to pay a $10 registration fee.  (And registration fees may be staggered, if that helps.)

The class costs $5/week/student.

Contact Cathy at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu to sign up or for more details.

Class Title:  U.S. Presidents (Back by popular demand!)

Aimed at Students Grades: 3rd – 9th (give or take, we're very flexible on this one too, though this one will involve reading and writing - if there are interested students who don't read/write, they can be paired up with a partner)

Instructor:  Catherine Jaime
Day/Date:  Tuesdays, September - April
Times: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.  (if they're coming for both classes they can bring a lunch with them to eat between them)

Brief Description: Each week we will cover approximately two U.S. Presidents.  After a brief introduction, students will do their own research in a variety of books that we will provide (hence the reason for the reading/writing requirements). I have done this a number of times in the past, usually close to Presidential elections, and we have always enjoyed it!

Cost: There will be a $10 registration fee/student due at the first class (to cover the book and supplies).  Sorry, for this one we need to collect the registration fee for each student, since each one will need their own book.

The class costs $5/week/student.

Contact Cathy at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu for more details.

Note on Cathy's classes that follow:  Cathy has been teaching high schoolers for more than a decade now. She strives to make the classes she teaches both interesting and informative. Students are welcome to sign up for any one or more of the following four "classes" with her; based on past years it is likely that many students will sign up for all of them and join us for the entire day.  Those who attend the Governement Club, Economics, and Constitution will definitely get the most out of the experience - since those classes reinforce each other.  Students who have taken any of those in the past will still benefit from the classes - much of what we cover each year is new, and anything that isn't is good review! We will be taking a 30 minute lunch break between Government Club and afternoon classes; students are welcome to bring their own lunches, or purchase something out of the refrigerator in the back.  We try to keep the refrigerator stocked with cold sodas and waters that students may purchase at any time for $0.50 each. The tutition listed for each class is a suggested amount.  We gladly offer discounts for families with multiple students and/or for those who are taking multiple classes.  And we will be happy to trade some help at the store for any who cannot afford the tuitition - there are always rugs that need vacuming there, and bathrooms and a kitchen that need regular cleaning!
