Creative Writing Class at CLC
Class Description:
Would you like to see your child have a better appreciation for writing? Do they grimace at the thought of writing an essay or a book report? That is not uncommon. Have you tried other writing curriculums just to find them frustrated or bored? Then this is the class for them! We will incorporate many facets of writing to help this essential communication tool come alive for them. Not only will we work on the basic formation of paragraphs reports, we will also explore more creative means of writing including short stories. I will introduce the concept of “Exciting Writing” which will make writing more appealing and fun. This will help spark your to-be writer with a desire to explore writing on a more real level. At the end of the 4 week series, the children will also learn how to present their writings in a small classroom setting.
Is this class graded?
The students will not receive a grade for this class; however, they will receive weekly feedback (both verbally and in written form). There will be assignments/weekly projects that will help further firm up the concepts taught. This class will be taught in a way that you may choose to use this as your writing curriculum for the year.

We’ve divided our Writers’ Evening into two sessions – a class time and an encouragement/sharing time.
The class will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will focus on the actual formatting, publishing, etc. of books. There will be a $5 charge, and at the first class you will receive a copy of Cathy’s self-publishing book. (If you already own the book, your first class is free – be sure to bring the book for reference during the class.)
From 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. we will have our sharing and encouragement time. There is no charge to join us for that. Bring a copy of what you’re working on, your laptop, etc.
Contact Cathy at cmmjaime@alum.mit.edu or 256-325-3305 to sign up, or if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
